At that time Abijah son of Jeroboam became ill, 2 and Jeroboam said to his wife, “Go, disguise yourself, so you won’t be recognized as the wife of Jeroboam. Then go to Shiloh. Ahijah the prophet is there—the one who told me I would be king over this people. 3 Take ten loaves of bread with you, some cakes and a jar of honey, and go to him. He will tell you what will happen to the boy.” 4 So Jeroboam’s wife did what he said and went to Ahijah’s house in Shiloh.

Now Ahijah could not see; his sight was gone because of his age. 5 But the Lord had told Ahijah, “Jeroboam’s wife is coming to ask you about her son, for he is ill, and you are to give her such and such an answer. When she arrives, she will pretend to be someone else.”

6 So when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps at the door, he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why this pretense? I have been sent to you with bad news. 7 Go, tell Jeroboam that this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I raised you up from among the people and appointed you ruler over my people Israel. 8 I tore the kingdom away from the house of David and gave it to you, but you have not been like my servant David, who kept my commands and followed me with all his heart, doing only what was right in my eyes. 9 You have done more evil than all who lived before you. You have made for yourself other gods, idols made of metal; you have aroused my anger and turned your back on me.

10 “‘Because of this, I am going to bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam. I will cut off from Jeroboam every last male in Israel—slave or free.[a] I will burn up the house of Jeroboam as one burns dung, until it is all gone. 11 Dogs will eat those belonging to Jeroboam who die in the city, and the birds will feed on those who die in the country. The Lord has spoken!’

12 “As for you, go back home. When you set foot in your city, the boy will die. 13 All Israel will mourn for him and bury him. He is the only one belonging to Jeroboam who will be buried, because he is the only one in the house of Jeroboam in whom the Lord, the God of Israel, has found anything good.

14 “The Lord will raise up for himself a king over Israel who will cut off the family of Jeroboam. Even now this is beginning to happen.  1 Kings 14:1-14

When I walked in the door of my house today the Holy Spirit spoke a name to my mind.  The name was “Jeroboam”.  I did not know who this person was and I asked my husband did he know.  As well versed as my husband is in the Word of God and as much as I have been taught by mighty ministers and the Holy Spirit, neither of us knew about this man other than he had been a king.  This sent me searching for who he was and what type of king he had been.

As I studied him out I found he was a trickster, a manipulator and he had a great ego.  He thought he could play with the things of God and never face a consequence.  He set up idol worship on both ends of the town and manipulated God’s people through fear of what could happen to them if he wasn’t their king and what would happen if they didn’t follow his “policies”!  He set himself up as greater than God Himself!  He went so far as to think he could trick one of God’s prophets!

His child became ill.  Jeroboam had his wife disguise herself, which is a type and shadow of how some try to appear one way to other people but are someone else entirely beneath the facade!  Remember the Old Testament is ALWAYS a ‘type and shadow’ of things to come or a warning of things that can come if others follow in the same footsteps!

Notice he sent her bearing gifts to the prophet, Ahijah.  She came presenting what appeared to be “blessings” to cover up her true motives!  She was not there to bless the prophet, but to get something she wanted from him!   She was as evil as her husband!  God, in the meantime, told Ahijah what she had done and had conspired to do and told him what to say to her when she got there.  Ahijah was blind due to old age, but he heard her footsteps and knew she had disguised herself because God told him in advance!  The first words out of his mouth were, “Why this pretense?”   Only people who have something to hide will hide!!   God is likened to a fire.  You do not play with God!  When you play with something greater than you, and it is a raging fire you WILL get burned!!  DO NOT PLAY WITH THE THINGS OF GOD!!  You will answer to Him before anything or anyone else.  Do not be fooled!

Notice also, God told Jeroboam HE put him in power, but he had not been like his Godly servant David and he had turned the people to evil things.   9 You have done more evil than all who lived before you. You have made for yourself other gods, idols made of metal; you have aroused my anger and turned your back on me.  In other words, none who had ruled before him had been as evil as him.  God gave him a chance to be a good ruler.  He said, just as He tells us in the New Testament, that He puts rulers in office, but He also TAKES THEM OUT of office when they cannot be trusted to keep the Godly precepts that have been set forth in that country!!

God had someone already set in place to take Jeroboam’s place as ruler.  He told his wife the moment she stepped foot back in the city, the child would die.  In other words, the prophecy would be put in motion!

You cannot say, “We are not a Christian nation!”  God says, “I will have NO other God’s before Me!”  Do I dishonor any office of government?  I DO NOT!  I pray for our country and our leadership to do the work of God.  But, it is not my responsibility if someone takes the power that has been given them and misrepresents the people of God!  God will hold responsible who IS responsible.  Beware you think ye stand lest ye fall!  That is the Word, my dear reader.  There is NO idol God will tolerate, whether it be a golden calf as Jeroboam had the people worshipping, or money, position, fame, or a person OR A POLITICAL PARTY!   Shame on us when we vote outside the principles of God and hold with a manmade institution that goes against the principles of God NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE!

I have seen God with my own eyes take situations that seemed there was NO WAY of turning and turn them “on a dime”.  I have seen people in power doing things that were wrong in God’s eyes that they and others thought were hidden behind closed doors and in a second blow it wide open!  I have seen people in power who abused their positions of authority and I have  heard even Christians say, “You can’t do one thing about what he/she does.  He/She will always be there and there is nothing we can do but suffer for it!” and see God turn it totally around within days!  There are no “untouchables” with God!  Do we harm people?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!   We pray!!  We leave the rest in God’s hands.  Nobody can take care of things like God can!  God always looks out for His kids!  ALWAYS!!

Jeroboam thought he had it all.  He thought his life was whatever he wanted to make it.  He saw there was no lie, no disguise, no strategy by which he could hide behind when God showed His hand!   God again will show His hand.  Our job is to pray and bind principalities in high places and pray the will of God be done to turn things around!  Then we are to trust God, because God WILL keep His word!

I write this, dear reader, with great humility!  I had no idea God would speak this, but I know better than to disobey Him.  Do not be fooled!  God will NOT be mocked!  I do not want to stand before Him and have no reason for not doing what He clearly spoke was my responsiblity!  Please, don’t find yourself in that place either!

  1. Great word Juliana….as I read this it brings to mind how much political discussion and opinions I’ve read, heard and have been a part of and I can’t help but wonder if Satan’s greater plan is to have the Christians so wrapped up in talk and disagreement that we forget to do what we are called to do…pray. Thank you for your obedience, as usual. Please God, continue to bless America!!
