10 Now there was in Damascus a disciple named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, Ananias. And he answered, Here am I, Lord.
11 And the Lord said to him, Get up and go to the street called Straight and ask at the house of Judas for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying [there].
12 And he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias enter and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight.
13 But Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard many people tell about this man, especially how much evil and what great suffering he has brought on Your saints at Jerusalem;
14 Now he is here and has authority from the high priests to put in chains all who call upon Your name.
15 But the Lord said to him, Go, for this man is a chosen instrument of Mine to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the descendants of Israel;
16 For I will make clear to him how much he will be afflicted and must endure and suffer for My name’s sake.
17 So Ananias left and went into the house. And he laid his hands on Saul and said, Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, Who appeared to you along the way by which you came here, has sent me that you may recover your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.
18 And instantly something like scales fell from [Saul’s] eyes, and he recovered his sight. Then he arose and was baptized,
19 And after he took some food, he was strengthened. For several days [afterward] he remained with the disciples at Damascus.
20 And immediately in the synagogues he proclaimed Jesus, saying, He is the Son of God!
21 And all who heard him were amazed and said, Is not this the very man who harassed and overthrew and destroyed in Jerusalem those who called upon this Name? And he has come here for the express purpose of arresting them and bringing them in chains before the chief priests.
22 But Saul increased all the more in strength, and continued to confound and put to confusion the Jews who lived in Damascus by comparing and examining evidence and proving that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah). Acts 9:10-22 Amplified Bible
Forgive me, dear reader for always being so wordy, but this is one of the most profound conversions in the Bible and God is having me to use it. Saul was the chief persecutor of the Jews. He held the coats of those who stoned Stephen and watched with pleasure! He ordered the killings of many Christians! He truly thought what he was doing was right. One day Jesus knocked him off his horse and asked him why he was attacking Jesus! Do you see here when people attack you for your beliefs, they are not attacking YOU, but JESUS within you!
Saul came to himself and had a miraculous conversion right in the street! This shows you can be anywhere and get saved, not just church. Make sure you are going to church though, dear reader. but don’t let people tell you that you aren’t saved if you got saved at work, home, in your kitchen, etc.. Wherever you prayed the sinner’s prayer, if you believed on Jesus with your heart made Him your Lord, you are SAVED!
What I love about the story of Saul who later became Paul is the fact that GOD changed Saul! God did what Saul could not. Think about it, he couldn’t even realize the truth until Jesus knocked him off of his horse, blinded him with the light of His glory, and told him to go to Ananias’s house! This is another part of the account I LOVE!!!!! God prepared Ananias to receive Saul! He told him He was sending Him and the attitude he was to receive Saul with, which was acceptance and love and to make sure other Christian’s attitudes were ready to receive Saul in the same new light because Saul had been converted by Him and was a changed man! He was God’s “chosen instrument”. Remember, instruments are used to play beautiful music, and many times are part of an orchestra or band. They are a part of a group and, when played in a harmonious unity with the other instruments, what a beautiful sound and great enjoyment they bring! Saul was going to be used to bring great things to God’s people, which he was now a part of! Ananias, respectfully, reminded God of all the suffering Saul had put the church through. Now God wanted him to have him as his house guest and to teach him to be a disciple of the Lord?? Ananias, of course trusted God, and if God said he was a changed man, then he didn’t have to watch him for ten years to be sure!! No, we don’t lay hands on any man suddenly for ordination or any other office of the ministry, but we should be going on the anointing more than mere human observance! When Ananias told the people they reacted the same way. They reminded him of all the Christians he ordered the murders on, the many torments that had been rendered at the hand of Saul, but they knew God was able and trusted Him!
Saul did not let public opinion OR HIS PAST stop him. I don’t know who I am talking to tonight, but God is specifically talking to you and you know it! You have felt shame and unworthy of God’s call and blessing on your life! There is more than one person but specifically there is a man this is meant for and you know it is you! You have come out of horrible things! God has delivered you! Guilt paralyzes you and you cannot believe God can ever use you in the capacity of your vision. I am here to tell you, by the power of the Holy Spirit, sir and ma’am, not only can He, but He is GOING to! Right now you are being set free of what you did in the past and who it molded you to be!! You don’t earn this, you receive it just as Paul did! Your works and love for God will be your calling card and speak for themselves, just as Paul’s did! God is preparing for you a table in the very presence of your enemies!!!! You cannot be stopped because you are going with God and you are His masterpiece!!!!!
As we know, the people came to love Paul so much, they BEGGED him not to go to Asia later on. They grabbed him CRYING for fear he would be hurt and imprisoned ! How different from when he was Saul and they were afraid to have anything to do with him! They loved him and begged him to stay with them. They supported him and prayed for him with tears!! How did this happen? Paul became so Godly, due to the power of God, they couldn’t help but accept him and love him and trust him with all of their hearts!
No, you nor I are perfect, but we are doing our best while we are on our way!! We mess up, repent, and keep on going! The Bible says a righteous man may fall seven times, but seven times HE GETS BACK UP!! Get up dear man of God! Move forward in what God has for you. There are many lives to affect and you have no time to waste! Trust the Holy Spirit as you go. He will show you how to do it and it will be a success!
Blessings to you, dear reader, and may God’s richest blessings be upon you! May you have all wisdom and every need met in abundance as you do the will of the One Who is sending you!!!! I will see you soon!!
