love is not

I hate to say this, but it is a fact, more and more people are taking this attitude on with each day including some “Christians“!  This is one of the many signs we are seeing in the last days…the love that used to burn so brightly in people for God has begun to wax cold!  People are becoming more and more interested in their agendas, their purposes, and anything that concerns them personally.

Jesus said to take up our cross and follow Him.  What is “our cross’?  Let’s look at the following passage:

Matthew 16

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will find it. 26 What will it benefit a man if he gains the whole world yet loses his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life? 27 For the Son of Man is going to come with His angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will reward each according to what he has done. 28 I assure you: There are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.

To take up our cross is to die to SELFISHNESS, whatever form that comes in.  Whether it is selfish ambitions, or things that bring recognition to ourselves so that we may be “glorified”, or any form of “It is about me first, and everyone else second!”  Taking up your cross is where our greatest desire becomes “Lord, let me DECREASE, that You might INCREASE!”

In general, society has lost the “way” of loving!  We have lost the idea of giving ourselves to serving and helping ALL people, not just family, friends, and fellow Christians, but ALL people.  Jesus loves EVERYONE!  Jesus is not exclusive!!  We have forgotten it is about showing God’s love through selfless acts of service and compassion as Jesus gave, which is expecting NOTHING in return.  We have slowly become a society of “I will do to you as you have done to me!”  This is NOT of God, nor is it FROM God!!  In fact, I am getting real bold when I say this is no different from someone who isn’t even saved and has not had their hearts enlightened with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!!

Love does not show favoritism!  In fact, the Bible tells us it is unwise and God actually frowns on it!  God does not show favoritism according to Romans 2:11.  It is totally against the very character of God to do so.  If you are showing favoritism, it is probably because someone did something more for you than someone else may have done.  Ephesians 6:9 tells us God shows no favoritism, that all are the same and equal to Him!  James 2:1 says we are to be of the same mind in this area as God is.

James 2

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

The Sin of Favoritism

2 My brothers, do not show favoritism as you hold on to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.2 For example, a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor man dressed in dirty clothes also comes in. 3 If you look with favor on the man wearing the fine clothes and say, “Sit here in a good place,” and yet you say to the poor man, “Stand over there,” or, “Sit here on the floor by my footstool,” 4 haven’t you discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

To have the thought  “I will do as others have done to me”  in a positive way is showing favoritism…it is not treating others equally, and according to God, IT IS EVIL!  “I will do as they have done” in a negative way, well that goes without saying!  In no way is this Godly character, and God will be the one to repay for any sort of wrong, NOT US!

Recently, my family and I went to the fair.  We ran into some friends who told us we had to try the chocolate covered strawberries.  Now, we go to the fair to eat!  You go to one booth, order, and as you eat what you have ordered you walk around to see where you want to “pig out” next!  You only get this food once a year and you fill up for about a years worth of time!!   We decided to look for the “out of this world” chocolate covered strawberries.  We found a booth and we ordered one stick of chocolate covered strawberries for us all to share.  Everything at our fair that is edible is usually on a stick.  We placed our order and the lady pulled out strawberries that had been frozen on a stick.  She then dipped the FROZEN strawberries in melted chocolate and handed it to me.  My husband paid her and I looked at him as we walked away and said, “How on earth will we eat this?  They are frozen and it will take almost all day to thaw!”  In reality, the chocolate would have by that time melted and it would never have been edible.  My husband decided to try to eat it anyway….impossible!  We had to throw the whole thing away.

Someone next to this lady’s booth must have seen it and said something because as we walked away we heard her say, “What do I care, I got my money!”  This is the attitude I am talking about.  This lady was concerned with only what benefited her and no one else.  She served herself and not the customer.

If we take on this attitude as though it is a common thing and nothing is wrong with it, then lawlessness spoken of in the Word will abound and lawlessness in the world will increase!  We must guard the love He has so generously shed abroad in our hearts!!  We must keep as our number one rule we will love God with all our hearts, souls, and minds, and love others as much as we love ourselves and our own well-being!  We can never forget this is a commandment of God, not an option!

Blessings to you, precious reader!  I will see you next time!  Juliana
