don't forget where you came from

John 13:34-35

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

34 “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

4 Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited, 5 does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs. 6 Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. 7 It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for languages, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.

Galatians 5:22

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith,[a]

2 Timothy 2:24

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

24 The Lord’s slave must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone, able to teach,[a] and patient,

1 Peter 4:8

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

8 Above all, maintain an intense love for each other, since love covers a multitude of sins.[a

Knowing God through Love

7 Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

In the middle of the night last night, for some reason I have become a night owl again, I posted an article on love.  I had a reader who became very upset over that article.  I am not going to try to justify myself in  posting it because every single word in it is true!  We all at one time were sinners, and needed the love of God to redeem us.  We must never forget where we have been brought from to where we are today.

I have written a great deal on love, our love walk,  and staying out of offense lately.  On the way to church yesterday, my husband was telling me  about the book he has been reading by Ken Copeland, “The Blessing of the Lord”.  Obviously,  he and Gloria were still in very “lean” times financially.  She had bought some cantaloupe and had really gotten a good deal on them.  When she sat the sack on the counter, the top cantaloupe was perfect. She was so excited and told Ken to look at how beautiful they were.   As they lifted the first one out the sack they saw the rest was full of rotten cantaloupe!  The man had tricked Gloria!  This was a time when Ken still had a very bad temper.  He was rough with everyone, except Gloria.  He got so mad he told her he was going to make that man eat every single rotten cantaloupe while he stood there and watched!  When he got to the place where the man had been set up with his stand, he was gone.

Ken went home and began to slam the fruit in the garbage can.  God suddenly spoke to him and said, “Did you repent of that?”  “No Sir, I didn’t”,  Ken responded.  “That is your problem”, God said, “Your spirit is full of that kind of trash and you don’t care enough about the commandment of love to do anything about it.” At that point the word commandment to love hit him between the eyes.  He began to repent and asked the Lord to show him what else he needed to repent about.  God did and it was much.  Ken repented, made phone calls and wrote letters of apology and when he did the glory began to POUR out and into his life!

It is like this, dear reader.  We walk in the light of God’s word and His word says to love everyone!  The minute we step over into anger, resentment, or offense we have stepped out of the light and into darkness.  Faith works by LOVE!  Faith isn’t just a verb that means to believe!  It has a catalyst and that catalyst is LOVE!  Love is the key to all the things God has stored up for you!  You aren’t going anywhere, doing anything worthwhile until love begins to dominate your thought life and your behavior!

Do we make people who refuse Jesus our best friend?  NO!  Do we accept sin in any form?  NO!  But, we don’t throw the baby out with the bath water!  LOVE the sinner, HATE, the sin!  I do not mean tolerate it, either!  If something is wrong and God moves on you to tell someone they are wrong, do it firmly, but with all gentleness!  He will give you the words that will go to the very quick of their heart.

Stop seeing love as an option according to how people treat you!   If you do, you are wrong!  Begin to see it for what it is and that is God’s commandment and KEY to opening the doors He has made ready.  If you had a house built and the contractor called and said, “Your house is ready and you can live in it now.”  Until he turns the key to the house over to you and you use it, the house will never be obtained or lived in!  It is the same with this.  God has made the blessing ready, but until you take the key of love, put it in the lock and open the door, you are no better than when you were homeless even though you may own the most expensive and beautiful house on the block!

Hear me, dear reader!  We are not loving to get something or to manipulate others.  We are loving because it is a commandment that is just as important to God as when He said, “Thou shalt not kill!” or any of the other commandments!

Study these love scriptures.  Let them get down in you!  No, you don’t have to, but if you want to see the glory in operation in your life, you certainly will!  I will, too!  I want everything God has for me, but more than anything, I love Him too much to be a child He is disappointed in!   In His love~Juliana
