guard your heart 3Proverbs 4:23

King James Version (KJV)

23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.

Have you ever noticed something that is being guarded?  Maybe you went to a museum and there was a rare painting.  You may have gone to the store and seen a “money transporter” truck.  They are guarding that truck because it has a great treasure in it.  They are aware of every thing around them and they are prepared to deal with something that is not right that may endanger the contents.

It is the same with our hearts.  Many times we think we are okay by the way we feel.  We wake up and are cheerful, excited for the day.  We may have something planned and have looked forward to it and prepared for it like a vacation or eating out with friends, but suddenly…ahhhh, here it comes!  We hear some really good news about someone we really don’t like.  All of a sudden fun, laughter, excitement turns to aggravation, jealousy, “Why them and not me?” questions, and sullenness!  It is as though someone has thrown cold water on our feelings of warmth!  What has happened?  We let upset, anger and offense creep in an open area of our hearts that wasn’t guarded properly!

Notice our scripture says….”for out of it (our hearts) are the issues of life”.  Having issues?  Check your “heart”.  When the Bible speaks of the heart, it doesn’t literally mean the organ beating on the left side of your chest.  It means your mind, will and emotions!  It is the “soulish” realm of you.  You are made of a spirit (which is redeemed through receiving Jesus Christ as Lord), soul (mind, will, and emotions) basically your personality, and body (where all of those organs are).   This is called the trichotomy of man.  You can find it in 1 Thessalonians 5:23 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

When you find yourself feeling those negative emotions, you should do exactly what a guard would do when an enemy or adversary comes to steal the valuable thing that is inside the truck.  They are all over that person, wrestling them down and stopping them before they can take control of that which is valuable!  They stop them before they can even get started with their evil plan!  So should we.  We should nip the plan of the enemy stealing what is so valuable that God has placed in us and for us before he can ever get started and make a stronghold in our hearts!   Your heart holds the greatest thing of value that has ever been known to man if you are a Christian!  It is the Christ, which literally interprets “the anointed one and His anointing“!   The anointing is what gives you the ability to serve, to bring forth the power of God, Himself to do miracles,  grow the body of Christ, keep ourselves full of peace, joy, and righteousness!  The anointing is something that rises up in you and makes you able to do what you could NEVER do by your own ability!  I wouldn’t trade the anointing for all the money in the world!  There is no thing on this earth I would exchange it for!  But, ironically you let it be suppressed by silly agitations and think nothing of it, because satan brings them so subtly!  You are exchanging what is worth far more than gold, for brass through sin!  Yes, we actually started sinning and opening the door when we decided we didn’t really like our fellow Christian!  Don’t think the devil is stupid.  He is very cunning, deceptive,  and smart!  But our God, who lives big on the inside of us IS GREATER!!

Listen to your feelings and when they are not lining up with the Word nip them in the bud!  James 4:7 says,7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  How funny just a few verses down it also says this….

11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

Speak not evil….You can’t speak evil, precious reader if you aren’t THNKING evil!  You can only say what you think!  Guard your heart (your mind, where you THINK)!

When we do these things, correct things, and follow through by doing God’s Word we literally position ourselves for growth, development, God’s ability to use us, which are blessings in and of themselves!!  That is right where I want to be!

Blessings to you, precious reader!!  I will see you soon!
