15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
When Jesus asked Peter this question God revealed to him Who Jesus was. If we were asked, “What do people say about you? How would people define you?” What are some answers we might get? Would they say we are Godly, practice what we preach, do what we tell others they should be doing?
You will never be perfect and if you ever try to be you will most certainly drive yourself into a certain neurosis! But, to miss it every once in a blue moon is certainly different from missing it habitually. With some of us it is a certain behaviour God has told us specifically to stop, but we reason we are only human and all people have their little vices. We treat that as a license to continue and God is good and He will certainly not let anything bad come on us or cause us to suffer any consequence. I mean what about grace?
There are others, who teach one thing and live another life when they think certain ones will never find out. The problem with this is satan makes sure they ARE found out for sin is a trap of EXPOSURE! Certain ones stand at a pulpit, or at a Sunday School teachers podium, or sit with children and talk about how we are all to love and forgive freely, be obedient to God and His Word only to go home and watch things that should never have aired on T.V. to begin with, say words that they would never utter if their “underlings” were listening, have inappropriate relationships all the while thinking they have outsmarted them all!
Peter knew Jesus was the Christ (the anointed and the anointing) not only because God revealed it, but because he saw His CHARACTER everyday! He saw His tender heart, His forgiving nature, His mercy and compassion! He saw the miracles Jesus wrought! He saw Jesus heal, restore, deliver, and give of Himself freely!! He heard Him teach and he saw, first hand, Jesus live those teachings every single second of every single day!
I laugh today at some people. They have a one hundred member church and “need bodyguards”! They have to have a “team” who does certain things for them for they are far too busy (and nobody can name one thing they are doing that makes them so busy) to do it for themselves. They don’t have time for their 75-100 members, but yet they pray for God to send them a thousand more (oh and don’t forget to make them tithing millionaires, God…we don’t need people who are “needy”, we just don’t have time for that) ! Be faithful to who you have and then see what God says!
Shame on us for acting in such a manner! When and where in the Bible do we EVER see Jesus have such a busy agenda He couldn’t stop and raise a mother’s son from the dead, or feed a crowd of 5,000, or heal the blind, deaf, and the lepers. When did He not have time for one single person?? There was a world to save! Yet, Jesus stopped for the one! Amazingly, He didn’t need bodyguards, servants, or fancy chariots to pick him up at the city gate and take Him to the Hilton of Jerusalem! Oh, and make sure you have His favorite coffee and fruit and special water! Jesus never required these things, though He certainly deserved the best of everything!!
Who do people say that we are? More importantly, who does God say that we are? Let us always walk in humility, just as Jesus did! He is our perfect example of all time, even to this very day!
Blessings, dear reader! See you next time!
