4 And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.” Mark 1-5 NIV
I love what Joyce Meyer says about this. I have made it my title. It is true, preparation time is never wasted time. What some do not realize is that preparation time usually feels like “nothing seems to be happening in my life” time. Why is that? Because God speaks in stillness and quietness. Many times our lives are at a point when we aren’t getting phone calls to have lunch, we aren’t being invited to the latest socials, we have not found that breakout job opportunity, or we just don’t feel anyone understands what we are going through. It is like we are at a standstill and even a roadblock! At those times remember another quote I love by Joyce Meyer, “When you are tempted to give up, your breakthrough is probably just around the corner.” What does God do to obstacles? He obliterates them!! This just makes me want to shout!!!
I know ministers that are full of the anointing! They have prayed, prepared, read the word and have been DOERS of the word, but their lives seem to be going nowhere. Their churches they have worked so hard to build and build up seem to grow less instead of more. I have watched as fine Christian people fight the good fight of faith, confess the word, pray the word, worship God, are ardent tithers and still it seems that thing God has promised seems to be eluding them! What is happening in this time? The devil knows your breakthrough is any time now, and if he can get you to give up and give in, you will never see the end result of your faith. God didn’t lie when He gave you the promise He would take care of you! God cannot lie!! It isn’t possible! He said He values His word above His name! That is powerful folks! But if satan can get you to faint in the day adversity, you will never reap that way!
Kenneth Hagin, Sr. used to say about things people had believed for, for what seemed quite some time “If you are willing to stand forever, then it won’t be very long!” What do you do while you are standing? You prepare yourself in the areas of integrity, character, and honor to stand in the promotion God has coming your way! You keep praising until you see your result! Faith sees NOW, what is coming down the road!! You dig into the word! You keep the vision before you, for without a vision the people perish! They lose heart and faint in other words. You fight the good fight of faith (believing no matter what you see) and a GOOD fight is good because YOU WIN!
Time isn’t “a wasting” as we say in Texas. You have used that “quiet” time to praise it in! You have used it to listen to what the Holy Spirit would have you learn and you let Him lay a foundation in you that cannot be shaken. I remember when a hurricane came through a beach community many years ago. When people went to look at the damage some of the houses had been flattened and some were standing as though nothing had happened. Someone asked, “Why did those houses continue to stand and suffer no damage and all the houses around it were totally destroyed?” The answer that was given was that the houses that stood, stood due to the fact they were built by a higher standard the city had required at the time. The other houses were not built by that standard because the city changed the standards and downgraded them. Because of that those homes did not make it through the storm!
It is the same with our lives. As we wait in that time period of preparation, we are being built to a higher standard in God. Whatever storm is ahead, we will be prepared for it and will have sticking power! Why? Because we practiced it in those “seeming to be going nowhere” times. We will look back and say, “I never thought I would say this, but as bleak and lonely as those times seemed, thank God I took advantage of the time I had with God or I wouldn’t be where I am today!!” You were allowing God to build a standard in you and a foundation that could not be shaken. You learned to live by faith and not by your senses! In the end, these times always pay off IF we use them as preparation time and not “give up” time!
